Directed by Andrea Hinman, the Asawa SOTA Dance Department prepares students to pursue careers and degrees in the field of dance. This program emphasizes a strong technical foundation and includes the regular study of ballet, modern/jazz/blues, and contemporary styles of dance, as well as training in choreography and composition.

SOTA Dance was established in 1982 by one of the original founding artists of the School of the Arts, renowned Dance educator, Elvia Marta, who served as the Department Director for 34 years, until her retirement in May 2016. Students interested in dance styles and traditions from a global perspective should visit World Music & Dance.
