GUITAR AUDITIONS

PLEASE NOTE: Guitar Auditions will be held on FRIDAY, JAN 8, 2016 for ROUND ONE, and on FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2016 for ROUND TWO.

To be considered for acceptance to the program,  students must come prepared to demonstrate: 

1- play from MEMORY

  • a free choice piece demonstrating ability in any style: classical, flamenco, celtic, folk,  jazz, blues, rock, metal or other including
  • a classical guitar piece from grade 2 or above in the Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus

2- demonstrate TECHNIQUE

  • from grade 2 or above Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus 
  • perform diatonic scales, chords, and chromatic scales
  • perform right hand arpeggio patterns: pima, pami, piapim, paipmi

3- demonstrate general MUSICIANSHIP skills

  • sight read a piece provided by the examiner from the preparatory level of the Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus
  • identify intervals from the tonic of a Major scale played by the examiner
  • play by ear a short melody based on the F, C or G Major scale using steps or skips of a third
  • perform a short improvisation in any style

Pieces and technical exercises should be at a minimum of Grade 3 of the Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory Music Development Program for Classical Guitar
