GUITAR AUDITIONS

PLEASE NOTE: Guitar Auditions will be held on FRIDAY, JAN 6, 2017 for ROUND ONE, and on FRIDAY, MARCH 3, 2017 for ROUND TWO. Applicants must complete an application packet. For details, check the FAQs here.



All students who love music and the guitar are encouraged to apply. Potential and achievement are both taken into consideration in determining admission. Students should prepare for the audition to the best of their ability and also remember that they will be able to put their best work forward in the very first moments of the audition with their free choice performance. To be considered for acceptance to the program,  students must come prepared to demonstrate: 

1- Play from MEMORY

  • a free choice piece demonstrating ability in any style on any plucked instrument: classical, flamenco, Celtic, folk,  jazz, blues, rock, metal
  • a classical guitar piece from grade 1 or above in the Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory of Music syllabus on a nylon string guitar

2- Demonstrate GUITAR FUNDAMENTALS

3- Demonstrate general MUSICIANSHIP skills

Pieces and technical exercises should be at a minimum of Grade 3 of the Carnegie Hall/Royal Conservatory Music Development Program for Classical Guitar
