Curriculum for Orchestra is comprised of
- chamber music
- orchestra and community involvement
- music history
- language skills to be able to talk about music
All Orchestra students participate in 8-15 performances throughout the year. Students are constantly in extensive rehearsal process, coached by other performers to acquire the skills to perform. Artists-in-Residence teach sectionals twice a week. Sectionals are divided by instrument and cover technique, orchestral music and solo repertoire and help prepare students for solos and orchestral concerts.
Students receive weekly academic instruction in musicianship and music history and are also eligible to participate in electives, depending on their involvement in the current orchestra concert and whether they have placed out of theory. Electives rotate and have included songwriting, composition, electronic music, taiko drumming, and keyboard skills.
