Media students study the elements of video production with some film work. The curriculum includes pre-production (planning, writing, story boarding), cinematography (camera basics, shooting, lighting, art theory), and post production (editing, special effects, titles).
Film study and film history also play an important role in the curriculum. Students work in documentary, narrative, animation, and experimental film genres. Students may explore audio production and design, pod casts, web design, and various forms of animation.
Students entering the SOTA Media Department often demonstrate a strong artistic background in one or more of the following areas:
- script/play writing
- video production
- visual arts with an emphasis on storytelling or comic-book art
- graphic design
- animation
- film criticism
- photography
- performance in video/film productions
We seek a balance of these skills so that students may work together to create collaborative pieces.
