Dance Audition Requirements
Dance applicants must dress appropriately for the audition:
- Dress: Leotards and tights are preferred. Warm-up suits or stretch pants are acceptable.
- Shoes: ballet, jazz or "dance paws", or barefoot
The audition is conducted much like a class with warm-up, center and movement sequences across the floor, in a group situation to perform as directed. In addition each applicant must have a 1 1/2 minute solo piece of dance choreography that he/ she will perform. Music must be on CD. No iPods please. The audition will take approximately two to three hours.
Note: Dance auditions are held only once each audition date beginning at 9am. There are no afternoon auditions.
About the SOTA Dance Department
SOTA dance students
will develop a strong technical foundation studying ballet, modern and
jazz styles with an eye toward the development of a students emotional
expressiveness and spiritual artistry.
Students also learn the
principles of choreography.
Upon entry to SOTA, students will work
extremely hard in a rigorous and supportive environment designed to
bring out the most in a students' talents. Successful candidates often have a basic ballet foundation.
SOTA dancers work daily in the professional dance world taking classes in downtown San Francisco at Lines Ballet Studios and at the ODC Dance Commons. Classes are from 1:20pm to 3:30pm.
The 2012 annual dance concert will be held at the Palace of Fine Arts. We are looking for dancers that will make a commitment to the SOTA Dance Company.
