Asawa SOTA Creative Writing welcomes a new strand of study to the department this year– Spoken Arts, an explorative track into communication and literary performance.
Foundational elements include intensive study into the science of sound and its effect on listeners (both intentional and subliminal), the mathematics of music and rhythm, use of sound and language throughout history, sound production in media and film, and more.
Students will have opportunities to explore their creative voice(s) through poetry, drama, comedy, improvisation, rap, and public speaking. For those who want to harness their skills in verbal dexterity and linguistic creativity, this track will give you a head start on your personal journey towards limitless possibilities.
Spoken Arts is taught by Rahman Jamaal McCreadie, an award-winning writer, musician, actor, emcee, professional teaching artist, Founder of Rap Force Academy™ and Executive Director of Hip Hop Congress.
