1 Prepare a song of your choice with piano accompaniment.

 • Bring a copy of your music for the pianist.

 • Classical art song is preferred, but any style that shows your voice at its best is welcome. (No pop songs please, unless you are auditioning for Jazz & Contemporary Music – See Below)

A piano accompanist will be provided, or you may bring your own accompanist.

Recorded music, self-accompaniment, or "a capella" presentations are NOT permitted.

2 Students will be asked to demonstrate basic pitch matching and sight-singing to assess musical literacy (music reading skills are helpful but not necessary for admission).

3 There will be a short interview with department faculty and current students.

JAZZ & CONTEMPORARY VOICE - ALL GRADES

1 Prepare one song of your choice, up to 1:30 min (can be an excerpt).

Bring a copy of your music or lead sheet for the pianist.

 Jazz is preferred (standards or American Songbook), but any popular genre/style is acceptable that shows your voice at its best.

• A piano accompanist will be provided, OR you may bring your own accompanist, OR you may accompany yourself (piano available or BYO instrument of choice)

2 Prior to the audition, students should learn the provided excerpt of Centerpiece. Choose and download the best key for your voice:

•Centerpiece Eb      •Centerpiece G      

Be ready to sing the excerpt as you learned it and then to take direction and sing with others on it.

You may learn it by reading, playing, listening, or whatever method works best for you.
